The Story We Want to Tell
Although our project was very frustrating and even overwhelming at times, this project showed us what it feels like to be willingly generous, and how wonderful it feels to make an impact on others. We wanted to increase our own generosity and also inspire the kids we taught ukulele to as well. We learned how to be resourceful and improved our communication skills in the process. We both felt a great sense of purpose when helping the kids, and actually made a difference in their lives. In fact, we got to talk to many of the kids’ parents, many of whom bought their children ukuleles, because they were so passionate about learning it. The latter weeks were a bit more stressful, because getting music equipment to perform was an arduous task; that part of the project did not go so well. However, we had so much fun teaching the kids and inspiring them, and that was the highlight of our project
Revised: The Story We Want to Tell
Although our project was very frustrating and even overwhelming at times, this project showed us what it feels like to be willingly generous, and how wonderful it feels to make an impact on others. The first few weeks were dedicated to us getting better at the instruments we were teaching and using to perform. We also spent this time to design a detailed ukulele lesson plan that we taught to students at Explorer Elementary School. We wanted to increase our own generosity and also inspire the kids we taught ukulele to as well. We learned how to be resourceful and improved our communication skills in the process of getting equipment for teaching, and eventually performing. We both felt a great sense of purpose when helping the kids, and actually made a difference in their lives. In fact, we got to talk to many of the kids’ parents, many of whom bought their children ukuleles, because they were so passionate about learning a new instrument. Although we did raise 15 dollars for charity, helping the kids was the most fun and rewarding experience.

During the process of teaching we came across kids that were very passionate about learning ukulele. In this photo is Maria. She was one of many kids that really wanted to learn ukulele. My partner Noah even talked to Maria's mom, because she wanted more information about where to a ukulele because her daughter really enjoyed and was inspired by us to play the ukulele. On the last day of teaching we asked if anyone wanted to show what they learned. In this picture is one of the girls that did perform in front of the class. She was very shy at first, and opened up at the end, and performed in front of everyone. She improved greatly, and became an excellent ukulele player.
