My Photojournalistic Essay
Altruism Through Music: Self Created
For the Generosity Project, we worked with a partner to design a project that would increase our personal generosity, and/or inspire others to be generous as well. My partner Noah Greene and I designed a week-long ukulele after-school program where we taught students at Explorer Explorer Elementary how to play the ukulele. During school, Noah and I practiced different songs, I played the ukulele and he played the piano. We performed those songs at Liberty Station to raise money for the charity Malaria No More. To find out more of our project, check out our blog.

Giving A Helping Hand, Just Because.
(At The Father Joe's, my photo journalistic essay)
FEB. 25 2015
It's very hard for us to be altruistic, and generous, and even just appreciative of what we are given. Volunteering at Father Joe's Village, which is a homeless services center, was very eye opening. I knew there were people out there that didn't have much, and went to places like these and ate their meals. But I never really imagined myself ACTUALLY serving them. A project like the Ollie(ing) to Altruism is a way where I can practice many awesome traits of mine. Little projects like these really do make a difference in the people you help and yourself as well. It changes you by showing you that it does feel good giving a helping hand, just because. |

Making The World A Bit More Beautiful
FEB. 11TH 2015

The sun was out. The sky was clear. Why not clean the bay?
Today we cleaned up the bay and made the world a bit more beautiful. Having the time cleaning up was really fun because we didn't only clean up, but we took what we learned from the photo lesson and took some photos. Heres this a slide-show of the photos I took. A Photo That Struck Me:
I chose this picture because I liked how the two of my friends are the main focus and the background is blurry. I liked how they stand out and their face expressions.

A Before and After (Post production):
The Story Behind The Photo:
I was walking along and picking up trash, and then. I saw it! A flower just there by itself with no other flowers around it, and it kind of made me sad. It was just there, by itself? So I just decided to take a picture of it since it was a cute flower. I made it a close up picture because I thought it was nicer that way, but now that I think about it, I should have made it a picture where by you can see that the flower was alone. But all is good, because now the flower will be remembered.

Baking At The Ronald McDonald House
FEB. 4TH 2015
Baking at the Ronald McDonald House was really enjoyable. I loved just being there with my awesome classmates and just, baking! Going through-out this week has been a really good experience for me. I use to think being generous was something that was the "right thing to do" and "was a must" but its so much more than that. Being generous is something that you want to do. With that said, getting the opportunity to bake for the parents at the Ronald McDonald's House was something that made my heart warm up. Made me really feel good just by looking at all the things my classmates and I baked and all the people that ate them.
